Dhruva

Dhruva is the son of Uttānapāda and grandson of Svāyambhuva Manu, whose story is a celebrated narrative of the fourth Skandha. Wounded by the harsh words of his stepmother Suruci when he climbed into his father's lap, he went to the forest at the age of five and, instructed by Nārada, performed austerity at Madhuvana; the Lord appeared and granted him Dhruvaloka, the fixed station about which the whole wheel of lights revolves. SB 2.7.8 compresses this into a single verse and marks particularly that he went to austerity 'though but a child', and that the divine sages sing both above and below his station.
