King
Ikshvaku
इक्ष्वाकु
Ikshvaku, son of Vaivasvata Manu and progenitor of the solar dynasty that bears his name, was the first king of Ayodhya; Rama was born in his line. He is remembered as the model protector of subjects. At SB 1.12.19 the brahmanas compare the newborn Parikshit to him: 'O Partha, he will be a protector of subjects like Ikshvaku.'
