Itihasas

The Itihasas ('thus indeed it happened') are the epic histories — pre-eminently the Ramayana and the Mahabharata — teaching dharma, policy and liberation through narrative, cited together with the Puranas as the 'itihasa-purana' alongside Vedic literature. In the processed verses they are counted among the texts Suta has mastered (SB 1.1.6).
