Janamejaya

जनमेजय

Janamejaya, eldest son of Parikshit and Iravati and emperor of the Kuru line, is named first among the four sons at SB 1.16.2. To avenge his father's death by Takshaka he held the famous snake sacrifice, halted at the plea of the sage Astika. It was at that sacrifice that Vaishampayana recited the Mahabharata to him — so that the transmission of both the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata runs through this same line of descent. Vaishampayana is already an entity in this corpus.
