क्षत्रिय
The kshatriyas are the varna arisen from the arms of the Person. At SB 3.6.31: 'bAhubhyo avartata kShatraM kShatriyas tad-anuvrataH / yo jAtas trAyate varNAn pauruShaH kaNTaka-kShatAt' — from the arms the kshatra turned forth, and the kshatriya follows it, who once born protects the varnas from the thorn of thieves. The verse gives their function as protection, not merely their origin.
