Manu

Manu is the progenitor of humankind and the promulgator of dharma-shastra; each manvantara is presided over by a Manu, and the present age is ruled by Vaivasvata Manu. The word manushya, human being, is traditionally derived from him, and the Manusmriti bears his name. At SB 2.1.36, in the anatomy of the Virat-Purusha, Manu is called His manisha, His faculty of considered thought — 'manur manisha manujo nivasah' — and mankind His dwelling; so that both the intelligence which frames law and the society which lives by it are within that universal form.
