Manvantara

मन्वन्तर

The period over which a Manu presides

At SB 3.7.25 Vidura calls the Manus 'manvantarAdhipAH', lords of the manvantaras: 'sargAMsh cha evAnusargAMsh cha manUn manvantarAdhipAn'. The manvantara is therefore the period over which a Manu presides, and is declared as an entity distinct from the Manus themselves.

Fourteen Manus, each with his own period

At SB 3.11.23 the enjoyment of the fourteen Manus within the Lord's day is described. At SB 3.11.24 it is said that each Manu enjoys his own time, more than seventy, and that in the manvantaras the Manu, the rishis of his line, the gods and the lords of the gods who follow come to be at once. At SB 3.11.26 the Lord holds sattva through His own forms and protects the universe by Manu and the rest.
