नन्द
Nanda is the chief of the cowherds of Gokula, husband of Yaśodā and foster-father of Krishna; it was to his house that Vasudeva carried the infant on the night of the birth. In the tenth Skandha his character is that of a simple, devout householder devoted to his son. SB 2.7.31 alludes to the episode in which, bathing in the Yamunā at an improper hour on a dvādaśī night, he was carried off by Varuṇa's servants and Krishna went to Varuṇa's realm to recover him; the same verse adds that He would carry the people of Gokula, who laboured by day and slept at night from weariness, to the realm of Vaikuṇṭha.

SB 3.2.26 calls the place of Krishna's stay nanda-vraja, Nanda's own cowherd camp; there Krishna lived eleven years with Balarama, His radiance concealed.
