पुलस्त्य
Pulastya is the sage whose name appears in the lineage of the Bhagavata at SB 3.8.9. Maitreya says: 'provAca mahyaM sa dayAlur ukto muniH pulastyena purANam Adyam' — that compassionate sage, when he had been told, spoke to me the first Purana, through Pulastya. 'pulastyena' is instrumental, and the verse does not say plainly whom he taught, since the preceding verse has already made Sankhyayana the teacher of Parashara. No teacher-student relation is therefore asserted for him in this collection; the uncertainty is recorded here.
