Rig Veda

The Rig Veda is the first of the four Vedas: a collection of 1,028 hymns across 10 Mandalas, the oldest layer of Vedic literature, its verses recited in sacrificial rites. Tradition credits seers like Vishvamitra as its drashtas and Vyasa as its compiler. In SB 1.4.20 Vyasa draws it out of the one Veda; its custodian is Paila.
