Sattva-guna

सत्त्वगुण

Also known as सत्त्व · Sattva

Sattva-guna is the first and best of prakriti's three modes: luminosity, purity, balance and the inclination to knowledge, rendering the mind serene. In the processed verses: when rajas and tamas — lust, greed and the rest — are washed away, the mind established in sattva becomes serene and satisfied (SB 1.2.19); sattva evolves out of rajas and is called 'the vision of Brahman' (1.2.24); the Lord nourishes the worlds through sattva (1.2.34).
