Tulasi

Tulasi is the most sacred plant of the Vaishnava tradition, indispensable in the worship of Vishnu and Krishna; His forest-garland and the worship of His feet are not held complete without tulasi leaves. The Puranas describe her as the transformation of the devoted woman Vrinda, and her daily worship in the household courtyard is part of domestic dharma. At SB 1.19.6 the very ground of the Ganga's glory is that she bears 'water made yet more sacred by the dust of Krishna's feet mingled with resplendent tulasi' — the conjunction of tulasi and the foot-dust making the water holier than it is of itself.
