Vasishtha

Vasishtha, one of the seven great sages, is a mind-born son of Brahma and the family preceptor of the Ikshvaku line; husband of Arundhati and keeper of the wish-cow Nandini. His long contest with Vishvamitra, ending in the latter's attainment of brahmarshi rank, is a celebrated Puranic narrative. The seventh mandala of the Rigveda is associated with his line. At SB 1.9.7 he is counted among the sages who witnessed Bhishma's last hours.
