Vraja

व्रज

Also known as व्रजभूमि · Vrajabhumi

Vraja is the grazing country of the cowherds, including Nanda's own camp (nanda-vraja), and the chief setting of the tenth Skandha. In the third Skandha Uddhava tells Vidura that Krishna, brought there by Vasudeva in fear of Kamsa, lived in it for eleven years with Balarama, His radiance concealed (SB 3.2.26). Uddhava calls that stay a matter of wonder: the Lord of endless power dwelling in Vraja as though afraid of an enemy (SB 3.2.16). The women of Vraja forgot their duties watching His glances in the rasa (SB 3.2.14); the people of Vraja watched the play of His childhood (SB 3.2.28); and this same Vraja was sheltered from Indra's rain by the mountain held as an umbrella (SB 3.2.33).
