Apsarases

The Apsarases are the celestial dancers of heaven, said to have arisen at the churning of the ocean, who grace the court of Indra; Urvashi, Menaka, Rambha and Tilottama are the most renowned among them. In the Puranas they often appear in accounts of the testing of ascetics, and they are the companions of the Gandharvas. At SB 2.1.36, in the enumeration of the limbs of the Virat-Purusha, they are counted with the Gandharvas, Vidyadharas and Charanas as the Lord's musical memories, showing that beauty and rhythm too stand within that universal form.
