Durvasa

Durvasa, son of Atri and Anasuya and held to be a portion of Shiva, is famed for fierce austerity and fiercer anger, yet is a great giver of boons when pleased. The mantra granted to Kunti, the episode of Ambarisha and the curse laid on Shakuntala are among his narratives. During the forest exile Duryodhana sent him with ten thousand disciples to the Pandavas so that they might be cursed for failing to feed him; but Krishna, eating a single remnant of pot-herb from Draupadi's inexhaustible vessel, satisfied the three worlds — the deliverance Arjuna recalls at SB 1.15.11.
