Kardama
कर्दम
Kardama is a Prajāpati and mind-born son of Brahmā, son-in-law of Svāyambhuva Manu, who performed long austerity on the bank of Lake Bindu and by the Lord's boon received Devahūti as his wife. Nine daughters were born to them, who were given to nine sages, and at the last the Lord Himself became their son as Kapila. The third Skandha relates his story at length, in which he completes the householder's duty and takes to renunciation. At SB 2.7.3 the whole episode is compressed into a single verse — 'in Kardama's house, O brāhmaṇa, of Devahūti, together with nine daughters'.
