Rantideva

Rantideva, son of Sankriti, a king of the lunar line, is the supreme model of generosity. At the end of a forty-eight-day fast, when food and water at last came before him, he gave them in turn to a brahmana, a shudra, an outcaste and dogs, keeping nothing — and gave even the last water to a thirsty chandala, saying he desired only the ending of others' suffering, not even liberation for himself. At SB 1.12.24 Parikshit is called 'generous as Rantideva'.
