Tejas

तेज

Tejas is the third of the five gross elements, whose quality is form, and which by inheritance carries touch and sound as well. It is the principle underlying fire, light, heat and the power of sight; in the Chāndogya Upaniṣad's account of the threefold making, tejas, water and food are reckoned as three deities. At SB 2.5.27 its origin is given from the transformation of air through time, action and inherent nature — that is, the production of the elements is not mechanical but governed by those three supports, which SB 2.5.21 says the Lord Himself took up.
