Vena

Vena is the son of King Aṅga and grandson, through his mother Sunīthā, of Death; he appears in the fourth Skandha as the type of the wicked king. On gaining the kingdom he forbade sacrifice and charity and declared himself alone worthy of worship, whereupon the sages killed him with the mere sound of 'hum'. From the churning of his arm arose Pṛthu, held to be the first consecrated emperor. SB 2.7.9 states the episode briefly and adds the particular point that the Lord, being entreated, saved Vena as he was falling into hell — so that the taking of the son's place became the father's deliverance.
