यम
Yama (Yamaraja, Dharmaraja), son of Vivasvan the sun, is the god of death and of dharma and guardian of the southern quarter, who judges beings according to their deeds; Yami (the Yamuna) is his sister. For sentencing the sage Mandavya unjustly to the stake he was cursed and born for a hundred years in a shudra womb as Vidura — SB 1.13.15 records that during that period Aryama bore the office of punishment. Yudhishthira too, born of a portion of Dharma, is called Dharmasuta.

At SB 3.5.20 Yama, called prajA-saMyamana, restrainer of beings, is described as born by the curse of Mandavya in the field of his brother, of a bondwoman, from the son of Satyavati: 'bhrAtuH kShetre bhujShyAyAM jAtaH satyavati-sutAt'.
