Yayati

Yayati, son of Nahusha and emperor of the lunar line, was husband of Devayani and Sharmishtha. Cursed by Shukracharya with untimely old age, he borrowed youth from his son Puru, and after a thousand years of enjoyment realised that 'craving is never quenched by enjoyment but grows like fire fed with ghee'; he returned the youth and withdrew to the forest — a celebrated lesson in detachment. Yadu and Puru were his sons, so both the Yadu and Kuru lines descend from him. At SB 1.12.24 Parikshit is called 'righteous as Yayati'.
