The devas (suras) are the divine powers of Hinduism — the order led by Indra, Agni, Vayu and others that champions cosmic righteousness against the asuras. In the processed verses: they churned the ocean with the asuras using Mandara (SB 1.3.16); received the nectar from Mohini (1.3.17); and — with the rishis, Manus and Prajapatis — are kalas of Hari (1.3.27).

Confessing their inability in creation, and praying to the Lord
By reason of their division the gods became unequal to their own functions and spoke to the Lord with folded hands (SB 3.5.37); they confessed that, each bound to his own pastime, they cannot answer His purpose: 'sarve viyuktAH sva-vihAra-tantraM na shaknumas tat-pratihartave te' (SB 3.5.47), and asked Him to grant them by His power the sight that is His own (SB 3.5.50).
