Lakshmi (Shri) is Vishnu's eternal potency and consort, goddess of majesty, beauty and prosperity; appearing at the churning of the ocean she chose Vishnu. Common speech calls her 'fickle', since wealth does not stay; the Bhagavata reverses the proverb: SB 1.11.34 says that fickle though she is, she never abandons the Lord's feet, and SB 1.11.27 makes His chest her very dwelling.
