Yashoda

Yaśodā is the wife of Nanda and the foster-mother of Krishna in Gokula, whose affection is held in Vaiṣṇava devotion to be the model of the maternal mood. In the Dāmodara episode she seeks to bind Him to a mortar for stealing butter, but every cord brought falls two fingers short — until the Lord Himself consents to be bound. SB 2.7.30 places both incidents in a single verse: the cord always falling short, and the sight of all the worlds within His mouth as He yawned, at which, struck with awe, she was 'awakened'; though the Bhagavata adds elsewhere that the awakening was momentary and her motherly affection returned.
