Maitreya

मैत्रेय

Also known as कौषारवः

Dwelling on the bank of the heavenly stream

In the last verse of the adhyaya Vidura is described as going toward the heavenly stream where the sage, the son of Mitra, abides: 'prApadyata svaHsaritaM yatra mitrAsuto muniH' (SB 3.4.36). Uddhava too names him Kauṣārava as being near Vidura (SB 3.4.26).

Commanded by the Lord to instruct Vidura

Maitreya tells Vidura that the Lord always approves of him, and that it was for Vidura's instruction in knowledge that the Lord, as He went, gave Maitreya His command: 'yasya j~nAnopadeshAya mAdishat bhagavAn vrajan' (SB 3.5.21). This is the warrant for the whole teaching.
