Kunti
कुन्ती
Also known as पृथा · Pritha
Kunti (Pritha) is the daughter of Shurasena, sister of Vasudeva and therefore Krishna's paternal aunt; she is called Kunti from her adoption by Kuntibhoja. She is Pandu's wife and mother of Yudhishthira, Bhima and Arjuna; by the mantra received from Durvasa, Karna was her firstborn. The Kunti-stuti of SB 1.8.18-43 is among the most celebrated prayers in the Bhagavata: she welcomes calamity as a blessing — 'vipadah santu tah shashvat' (SB 1.8.25) — and finally asks not for protection but for the severing of her bonds of affection and for devotion as unbroken as the Ganga's flow (SB 1.8.41-42).
